The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office is at 325 Court Street, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. Its main number is 906-635-6355, and posted business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Correctional Facility and Booking Office line is 906-635-7620. The jail operates continuously, but records and clerk services are not necessarily available at all hours.

Choose the route that matches the record or custody system involved.

• For a county booking photo or record, use the home page’s official search and FOIA steps, then send a written county FOIA request. No special form is required.
• For present county-jail custody, bail, or arraignment questions, call Corrections at 906-635-7620. MI-VINE can provide participating custody and court alerts.
• For a warrant question, follow the Most Wanted and warrant-check route and ask the Sheriff’s Office for the warrant unit.
• For a Sault Ste. Marie police report, call Police Records at 906-632-5744. The Detective Bureau is 906-632-5750.
• For District Court matters, call the 91st District Court at 906-635-6320. For Circuit Court, call 906-635-6338; Clerk record requests use 906-635-6300.
• For a sentenced state prisoner, use the Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS search. County jail status and MDOC supervision are separate.
• For federal custody, use the Bureau of Prisons locator. For immigration detention, use ICE’s detainee locator or facility route.
